At the time this series was taken, my sister was 14 and in eighth grade. In between childhood and being a teenager, she was in the middle of two stages of life, the middle sister, and the middle of growing up. As a young woman, she was out of the time where she's valued for being cute and sweet, but not yet at the point of being valued for beauty and maturity. As a young white woman from a middle class family attending a school that charges tuition, her experience in this middle stage of life is also marked by its privilege, and how it varies and is the same compared to other 14 year olds growing up in America.
